The number of sample space S which is the set of all random outcomes is 52. So n(S) = 52.

Now there are 12 face cards (4 Kings, 4 Queens and 4 Jacks). If E is the desired event then n(E) = 12.

Therefore the probability of drawing a face card = n(E)/n(S) = 12/52 = 3/13.
