One gram of diamond costs in thousands where as a kilogram of charcoal costs less than hundred. Even though both are chemically similar, why does diamond cost more?

It is true that Diamonds and Charcoal both are formed from Carbon.

However, diamond is formed at much deeper levels in the Earth that charcoal. Diamond is formed under very high temperature and pressure, where the carbon atoms fuse together to create a crystalline structure.

This is why diamonds are much more expensive than carbon, because the process that forms them is very difficult and requires a lot of time. This is why it's such a rare gem.
