One has to accept change in life no matter how hard that might be. In the poem A Photograph, the poet Shirley Toulson talks about a beautiful photograph that captured her mother's sweet face with two of her cousins on a beach when they were children.
After thirty years, the poet remembers that her mother laughed looking at her dressing sense in the picture. The laughter was not that much a happy one. It was a mixture of nostalgia, happiness and grief of loss.
Now, when poet's mother herself is dead for twelve years, the poet reconciles her mother and her sweet smile.
Thus, both of them accepted the reality and the change in their lives.
