Good morning everyone present. I feel immensely privileged to have got the opportunity to express my views on ‘National Integration’. J.K. Rowling in her famous book, ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ writes, “We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.”Our country is a country of diversity of climate, physical features, peoples, ethnicities, religions, languages, cultures, etc. In such a scenario differences of ideologies and the ensuing clashes are quite a normal happening. However, many of the differences in ethnicities, religions, languages, and cultures have become so intense that they have assumed dangerous proportions for the national unity and safety.

India has been facing many destabilizing forces that are rising from within the country. Communalism, terrorism, religious fanaticism, hostile neighboring countries, corruption, poverty, unemployment, etc. are some of the many destabilizing factors. Maintaining communal peace, camaraderie, etc. become quite challenging and formidable.

The Indian Government along with the people, must formulate a nationalistic policy aimed at promoting national integration and harmony, and implement this policy strictly. Education policy, foreign policy, and all the other policies must aim at promoting national interest. Nation must be supreme; all the rest must be subservient to it.

Any person or element that harms or undermines national integration must be strictly dealt with. Schools can play a great role. The children must be repeatedly told how our freedom fighters belonging to different faiths, religions, ethnicities, creeds, etc fought together and won freedom for our country.  Media can play a very crucial role in this regard. People must join in this national integration campaign.

We must never ever forget that all the national goals of economic growth, prosperity, technological advancement, becoming a super-power and self-reliant country will be possible only if we remain united. We must also remember, “United we stand, but divided we fall.”
