One morning on waking I saw from my window the blue sky glowing in the sun above the neighbouring houses.

The canaries hanging in the windows were singing loudly,; a cheerful noise rose up from the streets, and I went out, my spirits as bright as the day, to go—I did not exactly know where.I went near a river 1km wide and blowing with speed 4m/s .
I jumped in it and swim with speed of 3m/s. At which angle should I swim to cross it with least time?

You can swim at an angle of 90° 'cause perpendicular is the shortest distance to anything.
