The smaller number is (A) 35.

• Let the smaller number be x.

• It is given that one number is 5 more than the other number.

=> The bigger number is (x + 5)

• According to the question,

x + (x + 5) = 75

=> x + x + 5 = 75

=> 2x + 5 = 75

=> 2x = 75 - 5

=> 2x = 70

=> x = 70 / 2

=> x = 35

• The two numbers are :

35, and

35 + 5 = 40

• The smaller number is 35.
