Answer:

the answer is 3 and 6

Step-by-step explanation:

let the numbers be x and x+6

given, (x^2) - (x+6)^2

x^{2} - x^{2} + 12x + 36 = 72\\12x = 72-36\\x = 36/12\\= 3\\x=3

                                    x+6= 9

Step-by-step explanation:

let the two number be X, Y

if one number is 6less than the other then

the equation is

Y=X-6.... (1)

if the the difference of their squares is 72 then

X^2-Y^2=72.... (2)

sub eq 1 in 2

X^2-(X-6)^2=72

x^2-(X^2+36-12X)=72

X^2-X^2-36+12X=72

12X-36=72

12X=72+36

12X=108

X=108/12=9

X=9

SUB X value in eq1

Y=9-6=3

X=9,Y=3
