Answer:

(x - y)

Step-by-step explanation:

⇒ (x + y)² - 4xy

       (a + b)² = a² + b² + 2ab

⇒ (x)² + (y)² + 2(x)(y) - 4xy

⇒ x² + y² - 2xy

        (a - b)² = a² + b² - 2ab

⇒ (x - y)²

⇒ (x - y)(x - y)

 ∴ one factor of (x + y)² - 4xy is (x - y).

It can also be written as (x + y)² - (2√xy)²

     Using a² - b² = (a + b)(a - b)

⇒ (x + y + 2√xy)(x + y - 2√xy)

 Factors are (x + y + 2√xy) and (x + y - 2√xy).

The upper one and this one, both are same. Don't be confused as (x + y + 2√xy)(x + y - 2√xy)  = (√x + √y)²(√x - √y)² = (x - y)².
