Here are a few of my words on Elephants:
Elephants are wonderful creatures. Though mighty in appearance, they are considered to be soft animals and mingle well with humans, until they turn rogue! They are found in Africa and Asia. Our India too ranks among the countries who have elephants in their list of wildlife. These mammals have some distinct features such as a trunk, long tusks and large ear flaps. They are herbivores and usually stay in herds. They are the largest land animals to exist in this world.
A popular myth surrounding elephants is that they drink water using their trunks, just like straws. Though it is partly true, it is actually considered to be incorrect. Elephants use their trunks to collect and scoop up water, which they later drink through their mouths. So it is actually not the trunk used for drinking.
In Indian mythology, it is considered that Lord Ganesha is having the head of an elephant. When Lord Shiva cut off the head of Ganesha, Parvati became furious and it is then that Lord Bramha brought an elephant's head which Shiva fixed onto Ganesha's body. Thus, Ganesha got an elephant's head.
A phrase that comes to mind while talking about elephants is "Don't eat like an elephant!" which usually means to not eat too much.
