let this be the x component of the force,

F = 40 N
fx = 20 N

Let the angle between F and fx be Ф

F cosФ = fx
40 cosФ = 20

cos Ф = 1/2

Ф =  60°

It makes an angle of 60°, with the given component

Given:

The forces of the rectangular component.

To find:

We have to find the angle which it makes with it

Solution:

Let x be the component of the force which makes an angle \phi

From the given statement we have

F = 40 N

fx = 20 N

Let the angle between F and fx be \phi

F \cos \phi=f x

Substituting the values of f and fx we get

40 \cos \phi=20

\cos \phi=\frac{20}{40}

\cos \phi=\frac{1}{2}

To find the angle\phi we shift cos to the right hand side

So we get

\phi=\cos ^{-1} \frac{1}{2}

\phi=60^{\circ}

Hence the angle made by the rectangular component is 60°.
