Amount our friend gave = $10

Total money we had at the end = $ 13.50

So money given by another friend = $13.50 - $10 = $3.50

Distance  covered = 5 miles. 

For 5 miles we get $3.50.

So for each miles we get $ 0.70 .

Money after x miles = 0.7x

Money we raised = y 

Therefore the equation is;

0.7x + 10 = y
