Ankita161: please can you explain me
varsha162: You can understand this thing by reading this paragraph of class 12 cbse biology book
varsha162: page 251
varsha162: as I am unable to send the pics 0f the pages , so please wait for 3 days after that I will type the whole paragraph for you...but as I am a bit busy now I will only be able to type the answer after 3 days
varsha162: here is your answer I am typing a para from the 11 th ncert bio book hope it helps
varsha162: It has been observed that some plants require a periodic exposure to light to induce flowering . It is also seen that such plants are able to measure the duration of exposure to light . For example , some plants require the exposure to light for a period exceeding a well defined critical duration
varsha162: While others must be exposed to light
varsha162: for a period less than this critical duration before the flowering is initiated in them . The former group of plants are called long day plants while the latter ones are termed as short day plants. The critical duration is different for different plants . There are many plants however , where there os no correlationvbetween exposure to light duration and inducation of flowering response such plants are called day neutral plants.
varsha162: It is also known that not only the duration of light period but that the duration of dark period os also of equal importance . Hence it can be said that flowering in certain plants depends not only on a combination of light and dark exposures but also their relative durations. This response of plants to periods of day and night is termed as photoperiol
varsha162: sorry the word was wrongly typed it would be photoperiodism
