The value of k when roots satisfy the linear equation is 6 , 8

Step-by-step explanation:

Given as :

The linear equation

3 x - 2 y = 7                ......1

The solution of the equation is  k + 1 , k - 1

According to question

Roots of the equation satisfy the equation

So, For roots = k - 1

3 ( k - 1 ) - 2 ( k - 1 ) = 7                     ( from eq 1 )

Or,  3 k - 3 - 2 k + 2 = 7

Or,  (3 k - 2 k ) - 1 = 7

Or,   k - 1 = 7

∴     k = 7 + 1

i.e  k = 8

And, For root = k + 1

3 ( k + 1 ) - 2 ( k + 1 ) = 7                  ( from eq 1 )

Or,  3 k + 3 - 2 k - 2 = 7

Or,  (3 k - 2 k ) + 1 = 7

Or,   k + 1 = 7

∴     k = 7 - 1

i.e  k = 6

So  The value of k for the different roots = 6 , 8

Hence, The value of k when roots satisfy the linear equation is 6 , 8  Answer
