If both the taps are opened , then the tank would be filled in 60 minutes or 1 hour

Solution:

Given that,

One tap can fill the tank in 20 minutes

The other can empty in 30 minutes

Therefore,

The tap would fill 1/20 of the tank in a minute

And,

The tap would empty 1/30 of the tank in minute

If both the taps are opened in how many minutes the tank would be full ?

\rightarrow \frac{1}{20} -\frac{1}{30}

Here, minus sign denotes " empties the tank"

Solve it

\rightarrow \frac{30-20}{20 \times 30}\\\\\rightarrow \frac{10}{600}\\\\\rightarrow \frac{1}{60}

Thus, if both the taps are opened , then the tank would be filled in 60 minutes or 1 hour
