Let the number be x
∴ First number will be = 1/3 x
∴ Second number = 2/3 x
According to the question,
1/3 x + 2/3 x = 9
= 1x + 2x/ 3 = 9
= 3x/3 = 9
= 3x = 9 × 3
= 3x = 27
= x = 27 /3
= x = 9
∴ First number = 1/3 × 9 = 3
∴ Second number = 2/3 × 9 = 6
Verification:
Now,
First number = 3
Second number = 6
∴ Sum = 3 + 6 = 9
= 9 = 9
∴ LHS = RHS
