The Sum of digits is 12

Given:

One third of a 2 digit number exceeds its one fourth by 7

To find:

The sum of the two digit number

Solution:

Consider the two digit number to be x.

One third of the number =\frac{1}{3} x

One fourth of the number =\frac{1}{4} x

\frac{1}{3} x-\frac{1}{4} x=7

\frac{4 x-3 x}{12}=7

\frac{x}{12}=7

x=7 \times 12=84

Hence, the 2 digit number is found to be 84

∴ The sum of digits of 84 = 8 + 4 = 12
