one year ago,a man was 8 times as old as his son. Now is age is equal to the square of his sons age. Find their present ages​

SOLUTION :-

=>Let son's age be 'r'.

=>One year ago,

=>Son's age = r-1

=>Since, man's age = 8(r-1) = 8r-8

Now,

=>Man's age = r² ------( ATQ)

=>Difference between both ages of man = 1 year

So

=>r² -(8r-8) = 1

=>r²-8r + 8 - 1 = 0

=>r² - 8r + 7 = 0

=>r² - 7r - r + 7 = 0

=>r(r- 7) - 1(r - 7) = 0

=>(r- 1)(r - 7) = 0

=> r - 1 = 0 or r - 7 = 0

=>r = 1, 7

=>But son cannot be one year old

=>Therfore r = 7

=>Son's age = r = 7 years.

=>Father's age = r² = (7)² = 49 years.
