One year ago a man was eight times as opd as his son. now his age is equal to the square of his sons age. find thier present ages

let the present age of son is x

one year ago...
age of son = x-1
age of father =8(x-1)=8x-8

Also, now ... age of father is x^2
and also age of father is 8x-8 +1

so, x^2 = 8x-7
or, x^2-8x+7=0
so, x= 1 or 7 (1 rejected )

so , son's age is 7 yrs.
so, father's age is 49 yrs .
