18000.

Since last year their salaries were in ratio 3:5 so assume their salaries to be 3k & 5k last year.

Our task is to bring present salary in terms of k using ratios given

For P:

Last:present = 2:3

So present salary = (3/2)times last

Or alternatively

let last = 2m & present= 3m

If 2m = 3k then 3m would be 3*(3k/2)=9k/2

Similarly for Q:

5/4*(5k) = 25k/4

So present salaries are

9k/2 for P

25k /4 for Q

Total salary (9k/2 + 25k/4)

=43k/4 = 43000(given in question)

So k = 4000

Present salary of p = 9×4000/2. ie 18000
