then,

a² + 1/a² = ?

and,

( a + 1/a)²= ?

we know formula of a² + b² = ( a + b)² - 2ab

Then,

As per formula ,

( a² + 1/a²) = ( a + 1/a)² - 2× a × 1/a

= ( 3)² - 2

= 9 - 2

= 7
