In the poem the Trees, written by Adrienne Rich,
when the Trees move out of the house, there are cracks left in the floor of the veranda. The smell of the trees and lichen still persists in the house, as a constant reminder of the atrocious acts of humans on the trees. They are a sign of the struggle the Trees had to go through to go back to where they actually belong. The glass of the windows are broken and the house is filled with reminders of the struggle of the trees.
