Answer:

Fluorine

Explanation:

F is more electronegative than chlorine, in fact it is most electronegative element of the periodic table .

Reason - Small Atomic size jAnd more electron affinity of fluorine.....

The electronic configuration of Fluorine and Chlorine are 1s²2s² 2p⁵ and 1s²2s²2p⁶3s²3p⁵ respectively.

Fluorine shows much more electronegativity than Chlorine.

The reason why fluorine shows more electronegativity than chlorine is as follows:

  • Both chlorine and fluorine are from group 17 of a modern periodic table.
  • Group 17 is referred to as "Halogens". We all know, down a group, electronegativity decreases.
  • The property of an element to attract bonded electrons towards itself is known as electronegativity.
  • Fluorine is much smaller than chlorine in size. This makes the high attraction of electrons by the atomic nucleus in the case of Fluorine than Chlorine.
  • Not only that electronic repulsion is much more in fluorine for which it prevents the incoming of any electrons from outside.
