The text gives a concise instance of Valli's life from being a mature girl to the desperation she had in her life.
- Valli was just eight years old but she was mature enough to go outside and was engaged in some of the other activities.
- She started thinking of her future from this age onwards.
- She never bought any toys or games nor did even she take a ride on the merry go round that was set up at the funfair.
- She did not like to be called a child or a madam.
- Whenever she used to travel by bus, her focus was always on the outside scene rather than the activity of the strangers sitting beside her on the bus.
- Once she saw a cow dead in the middle of the road which disheartened her.
- Her aunt was never nice to her, she used to poke her for small things but Valli just overlooked her activity and always kept a smile on her face.
