So, in summary, some diffraction of x-rays on an ordinary optical grating would still occur, but at a negligibly small angle, and likely with very low efficiency. This is why we typically use crystals for X-ray diffraction, as they can modulate x-ray beams on atomic scale, comparable to x-ray wavelength.
