Our hand hurts more when we hit the wall. Than when we hit the sponge seat of the car we do not hurt.Why?

the sponge compresses when we hit it. The impact time of the force is increased, and thus the force becomes less. but, in case of a wall, the impact time is very short (which is the amount of time the force is transferred for) because the wall is hard, and the force is more.

when we a sponge it compresses as it has air trapped in it so the time for action is increased which result in less force but when we hit a wall as we know it is solid so the time for action don't increase which result in more force.
