Independence war of 1857 , was a widely popular but eventually unsuccessful revolt. Abundance of regional players and lack of central authority resulted in failure of the revolt.
They installed a failed mughal king as their leader who was unable to even walk.Had there been an able pan india commander , indian sepoys would have crushed the british and India would have got its independence in 1857 itself.
