Given :

Average speed of Bus = 60 km / hr

Average speed of Aeroplane = 700 km / hr.

Total time for the journey = 5 hours.

Formulas :

Speed = Distance / Time

Time = Distance / Speed.

According to the question :

Let the time travelled by Bus be ' b '

so ,

Distance travelled by Aeroplane will be 1900 - b.

Time = b / speed of Bus + ( 1900 - b ) / speed of Aeroplane

Equation :

5 = b / 60 + ( 1900 + b ) / 700

5 = 35b + 3 ( 1900 - b ) / 2100

5 × 2100 = 35b + 3 ( 1900 - b )

10500 = 32b + 5700

32b = 10500 - 5700

32b = 4800

b = 4800 / 32

b = 150 km.

\bf{\red{\underline{Question:-}}}

Out of 1900 km, Vishal travelled some distance by bus and some by aeroplane.

Bus travels with average speed 60 km/hr and the average speed of aeroplane is

700 km/hr. It takes 5 hours to complete the journey. Find the distance, Vishal travelled by bus.

\bf{\red{\underline{Solution:-}}}

Let,

  • the distance traveled by bus = x

  • Time taken traveling by bus = x/60
  • Distance traveled by plane = (1900-x)

→ Time taken traveling by plane = (1900-x)/700

→ Total time = x/60 + (1900-x)/700 = 5

→ x/60 – x/700 = 16/7

→ 8/525x = 16/7

→ x = 150

\bf{\red{\underline{Hence:-}}}

  • the distance traveled by bus 150km
