The cucl2 is more stable than Cu2cl2. The size of Cu2+ is smaller than Cu+

The hydration enthalpy depends on the size of the cation. Smaller the size of cation the more hydration enthalpy will be leading to more stability.

The CuCl2 is more stable than Cu2Cl2. The size of Cu2+ is smaller than Cu+. The hydration enthalpy depends on the size of the cation. Smaller the size of cation, more will be the hydration enthalpy. Hence more will be the stability.
