Let us assume that the monthly income of the house holder = Rs. X.

Then the amount he spends o House rent = 20% of X = 20X/100

The amount he spends on household expenditure = 70% of X = 70X/100

He saves = Rs. 1800.

So the equation we get as per linear equation:

20X/100 + 70X/100 + 1800 = X

20X + 70X + 180000/100 = X

90X + 180000 = 100X

90X - 100X = - 180000

- 10X = - 180000

X = - 180000/-10 = 18000.

Ans: Rs. 18000.
