During the french revolution ,there were three estates known as the first estate ,the second estate and the third estate .The first estate consisted of the priests the second estate consisted of the officials aristocrats and the third estate consisted of the peasants and the lower strata. Due to the rigorous caste system during the period and the advantage of being one known to the king exempted the first and the second estate of taxes and so therefore all the pressure of taxes came upon the third estate so when the meeting of all the estates was called to levy new taxes due to all the world loans piling upon their heads with the consent of all the estates during which the the third estate demanded and put forth the proposal of levying taxes justly and fairly which was turned down. This put the commoners on wildfire as they could have afforded to live under such circumstances so on twentieth June 1789 ,the commoners took the oath not to rest until the proper constitution of the country was formed and declared themselves to be the National Assembly. The angry mob stormed prise de la bastille ,freed the prisoners and marked the beginning of the french revolution.the day on which the bastille was stormed(14th July 1789)was decided to be celebrated as the French Independence Day.The actions of the people were tsupported by the ideas of liberty equality and fraternity for all from the texts such as The spirit of laws by great writers such as Montesquieu,Robespierre and many many more. Finally the king grew vary of the situation and declared the National Assembly to be fake . So therefore in a fit of rage the people ordered for the execution of the royal family after which lay the reign of terror(5th September 1793 - 28 July 1794)which was laid by the Maximilian Robespierre(not to be confused with the writer given before saw the death of many people when finally upon receiving threats of attacks from other nation , his colleagues ordered his execution and during this period Napoleon Bonaparte rose to the political esteem and announced himself as  the ruler of France . He was a just king and an excellent administrator. He inspired his army wth speeces and tactics
