Fishes have gills which can helps only in deriving oxygen out of the dissolved air present in water and hence fishes cannot live without it... (when I refer to fishes as an example, I mean all aquatic animals which respire in water)

And certain plants are also accustomed to respiring the dissolved oxygen and having its mechanism specific for the environment....

hope it helps...!

Have a great day!!!

Hi mate

Question

Oxygen dissolved in water is important for aquatic plants and animal . give reasons.

Answer

  • Gaseous oxygen, normally configured as O2, is soluable in water.

  • So is Carbon Dioxide, CO2. Underwater plants take in dissolved CO2 from the water and release O2 into the water.

  • Fish take in dissolved O2 through their gills and release CO2 through their gills.

  • There is also a lot of exchange of O2 and CO2 at the waters surface that is exposed to the atmosphere.

  • 3/5ths of the worlds oxygen production is done in the earths oceans by algae.
