Answer:

Let the coordinate of point P ( -1 , -2 ) be ( x1 , y1 )

and the coordinate of point Q ( -5 , -4 ) be ( x2 , y2 )

x1 = -1 , y1 = -2 , x2 = -5 , y2 = -4

By distance formula

d ( P, Q) = √ ( x2 - x1 )^ + ( y2 - y1 )^

= √ [ ( -5 ) - ( -1 ) ] ^ + [ ( - 4 ) - ( -2 ) ] ^

= √ ( -5 + 1 ) ^ + ( -4 + 2 ) ^

= √ ( -4 ) ^ + ( -2 ) ^

= √ 16 + 4

= √ 20

d ( P, Q) = 20 units
