If a polynomial p(x) is divided by g(x) = x-a, and if p(a) = 0.. Then g(x) will be a factor of p(x).

Here, a = √2,

So p(a) = 7(√2)² - 4(√2)(√2) - 6

= 7(2) - 4(2) - 6

= 14 - 8 - 6

= 0.

Hence g(x) is a factor of p(x).
