Let p(x) = x² - 7x - 5

& g(x) = x - 3

Then, g(x) = 0

→ x - 3 = 0

→ x = 0 + 3

x = 3 = α (say)

Now, by remainder theorem we know that when p(x) is divided by g(x) then the remainder is p(α).

So, p(α)→ 3² - 7 × 3 - 5

→ 9 - 21 - 5

→ 9 - 26

-17
