8, 11, 12, 16, 16 + x, 20, 25, 30 If median is 18 then Find x.

The value of 'x' for the given observations is 4.

• Given data arranged in ascending order is

          8, 11, 12, 16, 16 + x, 20, 25, 30

• The number of observations given are 8, which is an even number.
• The median of data with even number of observations is calculated by taking the average of middle two terms i.e, 16, 16 + x in this case.
• Given,

                        Median = 18

                        (16 + 16 + x)/2 = 18

                         32 + x = 36

                          x = 36 - 32

                          x = 4
