Oiling is Method of preservation food.
Oil makes a layer . By oiling air is cut hence microbes are not able to grow

Answer:

Paheli watched her grandmother pour oil on top of the mango pickle bottle before closing the lid.

Her grandmother did so too as oil acts as a preservative and prevents bacteria to be formed.

This is known as preservation by oil.

Bacteria cannot build in such environment as oil acts as a barrier between the pickle and the atmosphere outside allowing no environmental air or particles penetrate through it.
