Answer:

Number of paper clips in each small box is 60

And Number of paper clips in each large box is 175.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's assume that, each of the small boxes can hold x number of paper clips, and each of the large boxes can hold y number of paper clips.

According to the problem:

4x + 5y = 1115

=> 8x + 10y = 2230 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (i)  [multiplying both sides by 2]

and, 3x + 2y = 530

=> 15x + 10y = 2650 . . . . . . . . . . . . . (ii) [multiplying both sides by 5]

Subtracting (i) from (ii):

15x - 8x = 2650 - 2230

=>7x = 420

∴ x = 60

Since, 3x + 2y = 530

=> 2y = 530 - 3x = 530 - 3 . (60) = 530 - 180 = 350

∴ y = 175

Number of paper clips in each small box is 60

And Number of paper clips in each large box is 175.

Play a Game

Draw a number box like this on a sheet of paper. Drop 2 paper clips on the box. Let us say the paper clips fall on numbers 4 and 9. Take away the smaller number from the bigger, that is, 9-4 = 5. Do this ten times. Write down your answers.
