Time and Tide wait for none.

This proverb illustrates the importance of time and also says that there is nothing which is more precious than time. The words TIME AND TIDE WAIT FOR NO MAN is due to the reason that the tides that come out in the sea are there forever and they do not stop or wait for anybody. There is a story in England where one of the king’s courtiers always kept on flattering the king. He said if the king orders everything in the world will stop. The King wanted to check it and he went to the seashore and ordered the waves to stop, but nothing happened. The King turned back to the courtier and said that time and tide wait for none and one day he will also die.

If we remain idle we waste our time and postpone things. Some times this procrastination is very bad. Many people lose their hard work because of postponing their duties. The importance of a minute can be learned from a person who missed the train due to a delay of one minute and had to postpone his whole journey. Those who remain idle or do not perform their duties in time are not only the destroyers of their own lives but also of the nation. Those who waste their youth by indulging in unwanted activities fail to have a pleasant and contented life.

The processes of nature continue, no matter howmuch we might like them to stop. The word tidemeant “time” when this proverb was created, so it may have been the alliteration of the words thatfirst appealed to people. Now the word tide in thisproverb is usually thought of in terms of the sea, which certainly does not wait for anyone
