On September 9, 1828, Leo Tolstoy was born in Tula Province, Russia. In the 1860s, he wrote his first great novel, War and Peace.

In 1873, Tolstoy set to work on the second of his best known novels, Anna Karenina.

He continued to write fiction throughout the 1880s and 1890s. One of his most successful later works was The Death of Ivan Ilyich. Tolstoy died on November 20, 1910 in Astapovo, Russia.

On September 23, 1862, Tolstoy married Sophia Andreevna Behrs, who was 16 years his junior and the daughter of a court physician. She was called Sonya, the Russian diminutive of Sofia, by her family and friends.They had 13 children, eight of whom survived childhood.

Leo Nikoleievich Tolstoy was born in Russia in 1828. He served in Russian army from 1851 to 1856. he was a noble man who won a great deal of land but felt it was his duty to give it away and later simple life. he came to be a frame believer in non violence Mahatma Gandhi was greatly influenced by his writing. his tells gives us a true picture of life of Russian peasants. he does not tell a story of merrily to amuse us he is teaching a lesson. war and Peace are imortal class 6 written by Leo Tolstoy.
