Earthquakes are sudden tremors that are caused by movement along the earth's faults. There are tectonic plates of the earth that slides along each other and act in a coordinated manner. Sometimes the collision of two consecutive plates leads to earthquakes. The tremors caused by the earthquakes can be fatal. The earthquakes are broadly classified into-

The Pacific ring of fire is said to be the most prone area for earthquakes. Earthquakes can also be caused by human activities. They are termed induced earthquakes. Induced earthquakes are caused by excessive construction and geothermal projects.
Earthquakes are generally measured by seismographs and the Richter scale. Seismographs record the seismic waves and reveal the severity and duration of the earthquake whereas the magnitude is expressed by the Richter scale.
Earthquakes can be destructive. Some destructions caused by earthquakes are listed below-
