O2 is a diradical (two unpaired electrons of same spin), a paramagnetic molecule. Superoxide ions are paramagnetic (one unpaired electron) and colored, NaO2 or KO2- yellow, RbO2-orange, CsO2- brown. Group 2 elements do not form superoxides.
