Cuscuta doesn't contain any chlorophyll, so it cannot make it's own food. It depends on other plants to derive it's food from them. Therefore it is a parasitic plant. The stem of the cuscuta plant attaches to the host plant. In the process of deriving it's nutrition it harms it's host plant

saiprasadstark: but why cuscuta plant appears green

Answer:

Cuscuta does not contain chlorophyll and cannot able prepare it's own food and grows on another host plant to get nutrients for its growth. Hence it is categorized as a parasite. It has a green colour because it has  chlorophyll inside it.
