For this problem, we have to take the lowest common multiple of the denominators of all three fractions. This is because the denominators (the lower digits) are different. Such fractions are called unlike fractions. In order to compare these three fractions, we have make the denominators same. To make the denominators same, we have to take LCM. Remember : If you have to work with unlike fractions, take the LCM. The LCM of 2,5 and 10 is 10. So, we have to make all fractions equivalent.

2/5 = 2 X 2 / 5 X 2 = 4/10

Because : The LCM is 10. Thus, we have to make the denominator of each fraction 10. In this case, to convert 5 to 10, we have to multiply it by 2. We multiplied the denominator with 2, so we have to multiply the numerator with 2 as well. Which gives us 4/10.

Similarly,

1/2 = 1 X 5 / 2 X 5 = 5/10

This makes the comparison easier.

The fractions we have now are : 4/10, 5/10, and 7/10

All fractions have the same denominator, so we just have to compare the numerators.

Which gives us : 4/10 is the smallest fraction while 7/10 is the largest.

Therefore, the red ribbon is the shortest, then comes the blue ribbon, and the yellow ribbon is the longest.

Please let me know if any of my processes is wrong.
