Answer:- 0.3

Solution:- The balanced equation is:

PCl_5\rightarrow PCl_3+Cl_2

From this equation, there is 1:1 mol ratio between the products. It means the moles of Cl_2 and PCl_3 formed will be equal and if the moles are equal then their mole fraction has to be equal.

The mole fraction of chlorine is given as 0.3, so the mole fraction of PCl_3 must also be 0.3.

If we think about another way then, sum of mole fraction is always 1.

So, mole fraction of PCl_5 + mole fraction of Cl_2 + mole fraction of PCl_3 = 1

Let's plug in the values in it...

0.4 + 0.3 + mole fraction of PCl_3 = 1

mole fraction of PCl_3 = 1 - 0.4 - 0.3  = 0.3

Hence, the mole fraction of PCl_3 is 0.3.
