Snehanp:
A kings sword may be sharp and powerful .It enables him to fight with his enemies .It protects him and saves him from danger .But when compared to the 'pen' the sword is not so powerful . The poem 'Not marble nor the gilded monuments ' is written by Shakespeare in memory of his friends , claims the power of written verse over other things in life .

Bonjour!!
From the reference to the poem 'Not marble nor the gilded monuments' the poet says that the marble and gold-plated monuments of great swordmen and kings made with glory will be destroyed with time and will be destroyed or tarnished. On the contrary, the poem written by the poet will live till the judgement day and his friend will be loved by the readers forever.
