First of all Penicillin is an antibiotic and antibiotics are antimicrobial medicine which helps to recover our illness ..

Penicillin is not effective against common cold because it is an antibiotic which is used to treat infections that caused by bacteria and common cold is caused by virus, thus antibiotic are effective only on bacteria. So there is no use of taking antibiotics to treat cold.
