Tis poem is about the greedy ness of the old lady.
once saint peter was roaming in the north land so,he came to the door of cottage where an old lady was baking cakes.saint peter asked for a cake but the lady didn't offer him a single cake,so the saint grew angry and then saint cursed the old lady didn't deserve to be human so,he turned old lady to a woodpecker .also we know that wood pecker get food by boring wood.
This story tell that we should offer food to Hungry man.

'a legend of northland ' by Phoebe Cary discusses how greed ruins a person.the poets starts by describing the northland as a place where the days are short and the nights are long.when there is snowfall the people harness the raindeer to the sledges and children look like bear's Cub's in their furry clothes.the poetress narrate the story about saint peter and an old lady.the legend goes as follow:- Saint Peter comes to door of a little cottage where a woman was making cakes.he felt busy because he hadn't eaten anything. He asked her for a cake .the woman made a small cake but when she thought its too large to given away.the size of the cake got smaller and smaller.but it always seems too big to the woman.saint peter grew angry and called her selfish.he said that she would built nests like a birds do, peaking,dry,hard wood .the old woman flew through the chimney and became a woodpecker.everything she was willing was burnt except for scarlet cap
