Swaraj was the term which meant different things to different people.

(i) Middle class- Spreading education and a share in the administration was swaraj for them.

(ii) Peasants - Reduction of land revenue was swaraj for small peasants.

(iii) Tribals- Getting their traditional rights over forests were swaraj for the tribals living near forests.

(iv) Plantation workers- To move independently in and out of the tea garden was swaraj for them.

Rich peasants - swaraj for them was struggle against high revenues.

Poor peasants-swaraj for them meant in reduction in land revenues and relaxation of taxes.

Business class. - they wanted protection against imports of foreign goods.

Womens-they had large scale participation. They wanted freedom to move, and hold any position within the organisation.
