Given:

A bookseller buys 500 pencil at rupees 4 each he sells 300 of them at rupees 5 each and the rest at rupees 6 each

To find:

Find his gain percent

Solution:

He brought 500 pencils at 4 each  = 500 * 4 = Rs 2000

He sold 300 at Rs.5,  300 * 5 = 1500

Rest of the pencils = 500 – 300= 200 were sold at 6 rupees each,

200 * 6 = 1200

The total pencils were sold at = 1500 + 1200 = 2700.

He gained 700 rupees, hence  2000 * x / 100

x = 35%

Answer:

35%

Step-by-step explanation:

CP= 500 X 4

    = 2,000 rs

SP for 300 pencils for 5 each = 300 X 5

                                                 = 1,500 rs

SP for 200 pencils for 6 each = 200 X 6

                                                  = 1,200 rs

Total SP = 1,500 + 1,200

              = 2,700 rs

2,000 < 2,700

therefore, there is a profit

profit = SP - CP

         = 2,700 - 2,000

         = 700

profit percentage = profit X 100

                                 CP

                              =  700 X 100

                                 2,000

                              = 35%
