Calcium carbonate is strongly heated until it undergoes thermal decomposition .Calcium carbonate is lime stone. When lime stone is heated it releases carbon dioxide leaving behind calcium oxide (quick lime) into the solution . The reaction is given as follows:
CaCO3 --heat--> CaO + CO2 .
